Story 01 • Saffron & Jasmine

Pranav & Shreya

Orange silk, jasmine garlands and a hall full of family, seen from close by.

Read from the beginning, or select any frame to see it large.

Bride in orange silk and groom in ivory laughing together on a sofa before a warm painted wall

iBefore the rituals

A sofa, a painted wall of lotus shapes, and something that made them both laugh before the day became formal.

Bride in orange silk seated beneath hanging flowers, eyes lowered, hands resting in her lap
The bride seen past the groom's shoulder, seated among relatives in bright silks

iiSaffron

Orange silk, hands resting in her lap, flowers hanging overhead. Around her, the hall filled slowly with family in every colour of silk.

Black and white: the groom from behind, the long tail of his turban falling down his back
The bride smiling past the out-of-focus turban of the groom
The ceremony seen through guests, the couple facing each other across the hall
Black and white: the couple laughing at the centre of a crowd of family

iiiIn the crowd

I stayed close and low, letting shoulders, turbans and silk fall across the lens, so the pictures feel like standing among the guests rather than watching from a distance.

The bride with eyes closed during the rites, jasmine and gold at her neck
Black and white: the groom looking down at the jasmine garland around his neck
The couple smiling through a soft blur of orange silk in the foreground

ivJasmine

Garlands of jasmine, gold at her throat, and a quiet moment on the stage when they finally turned to look at each other.

The couple seated side by side in garlands, turning to look at each other
